Health & Safety: Grosvenor Mayfair Jubilee Party

Background

In celebration of the Queen’s Jubilee, OPS provided H&S services for We Are Placemaking, at the largest ever street party held in Mayfair. Taking place over two consecutive days on North Audley Street, the event provided a fantastic opportunity to introduce, and showcase everything that North Audley Street, in addition to Mayfair, has to offer. The event offered a 200 metre party table running the length of the street, intertwined with English planting, linen table cloths, and bespoke branding throughout, allowing a location to celebrate the Jubilee in style.

OPS created a range of documentation for the event, in addition to the provision of on-site health and safety throughout the build, live and break phases. On the live day, both the We Are OPS and We Are Placemaking teams were on-site managing the festivities, bringing packed out crowds to this wonderful event.

Challenges

  • The event involved the presence of various food vendors, local partners, and multiple suppliers, which meant there had to be an aligned approach to safety throughout. This had to be maintained via an effective induction, delivered to all involved in the delivery, prior to the commencement of the event.

  • Both We Are Placemaking and Grosvenor had aims of the event being eye-catching and visually pleasing for attendees, This meant that there were certain design areas, such as the presence of a 3 metre high floral arch, that had to be structurally sound and durable for the expected crowds. This resulted in structural engineer reports and calculations being completed, to be reviewed by the Safety Advisor, in order to understand the particular wind and weight loading elements of the installations. Close liaison was also maintained with Lay London, the event décor team, to ensure safe design was a key element throughout the creative process.

  • Although North Audley Street was temporarily closed for vehicle traffic, pedestrians were still able to pass through. This meant that compliance from all staff and suppliers had to be rife throughout the build and break periods when equipment, vehicle movement and other hazards would be present. This was closely monitored by the Event Safety Advisor, Production Manager and Security team to ensure any issues were flagged and resolved as soon as was possible.

  • The event attracted a larger audience than originally expected. Close liaison with Security was therefore vital, ensuring accurate monitoring of attendance numbers, allowing any incidents to be dealt with effectively, and halting any activity when and where necessary.
