Health & Safety: Grosvenor’s Ever After Garden

Background

During the festive season the public were invited to Grosvenor Square Ever After Garden to dedicate an illuminated white silk rose with a personalised message to remember their loved ones. All donations went directly to The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.

As well as the roses, visitors could also enjoy the Cathedral of lights situated in the middle of the garden.

OPS supported the team to deliver Health & Safety over the build, live and break days.

“The Ever After Garden was born out of the need to pay tribute to those we have lost during the year. It was an idea originally conceived with Camilla Morton in memory of Michael Howells and is named after the film for which he designed the sets. However this garden should be personal to everyone. For me, it is also in memory of my Aunt Elizabeth Hindmarch. My wish is for this to be a place to reflect at Christmas in amongst all the festive cheer, and in doing so raise money for the incredible institution that is The Royal Marsden.” – Anya Hindmarch, Ever after Garden Designer

Challenge

A large scale install in an open public space always comes with it’s challenges. This meant that scheduling had to be tight to ensure the welfare of both the staff installing the roses and archway structure and of the public walking through the square. OPS ensured work wasn’t carried out over lunchtimes to decrease any inconvenience to the public using the square, that staff took regular breaks from the cold weather and had safe zones to work within.

Communication was slightly more challenging for this project due to the production company having staff based overseas. The OPS Health & Safety team worked with suppliers directly to gather the necessary paper work required.
