As the Operations Manager at We Are OPS, I spend most of my time behind the scenes, planning, coordinating, responding, and making sure everything runs smoothly. But every now and then, you get a moment that reminds you why you do it. This year, that moment came while working Boiler Room, Maiden Voyage, and Jazz Café at Burgess Park.
Three Very Different Shows, One Incredible Site

All three festivals had their own feel, and as someone who thrives on logistics and smooth delivery, each one brought new challenges and rewards. Boiler Room returned in a unique and immersive environment that blurred the line between performer and audience. Maiden Voyage brought a mix of genres across carefully curated stages, and Jazz Café Festival made it’s anticipated return and was my own personal highlight.
From managing traffic and crowd flow to supporting our brilliant safety and licensing teams, every day on site was a full team effort, and it was a privilege to be part of it.
A Personal Highlight: Music Close to Home

Music has always been a big part of my life, so being part of the operations team delivering events where some of my favourite artists are performing is genuinely special. Seeing Freddie Gibbs and Westside Gunn live, artists I’ve followed and admired for years, was a real highlight for me this year. Having the privilege of experiencing those sets from the side of the stage, knowing I had a hand in helping the show come together safely and successfully, made me feel incredibly proud. These are the moments that make all the long hours and hard work worth it.
Why This Work Matters

People often don’t realise the level of planning and precision that goes into putting on festivals. From liaising with local authorities and emergency services to writing detailed documentation and managing contractors on site, it’s a job that never stops evolving. And as someone who’s passionate about both live events and the operational side of things, it’s incredibly rewarding to know that our work creates spaces where music lovers can come together and enjoy something special, safely, responsibly, and professionally.

Standing Back, Taking It In

There’s something quietly powerful about stepping back after a show and knowing that you played a key part in making the event happen. It’s not glamorous, and it’s not always easy, but moments like this year’s festivals at Burgess Park remind me exactly why I love doing what I do.
