Festival Health & Safety: Bournemouth 7s

Background

Bournemouth 7s brings together the best elements of sport and music to create a festival with an unbeatable party atmosphere.

The self-proclaimed “largest sport and music festival” attracts over 30,000 festival-goers and over 400 sports teams over the late May Bank Holiday weekend.

By day, the show welcomes rugby, netball, dodgeball and hockey teams for a mixture of elite and social sporting competitions. By night, live DJs and performances from the likes of Rudimental, Joel Corry, Wilkinson and Majestic provide the audience with more entertainment to keep the party atmosphere alive.

We have worked with the organisers since 2017, offering a range of operational and health & safety services including SAG attendance, rable top attendance and on-site safety for seven days.

Following multiple years of collaboration and expertise, our team was requested to be on-site for longer in 2024, with an increased presence during the build period of the event.

 Challenges

  • Longer duration on site: Our services were of value and were therefore requested the team for an extended period of time. Being on site for a longer duration, however, meant gathering completion certificates for infrastructure, power, water, decorative elements, stage and structures was much easier due to increased time working with suppliers.
  • Weather: The Funky Forest returned to its previous location, but required special considerations due to adverse weather. We therefore advised additional groundworks to keep the area in good condition ready for the live event.

Delivery

  • On-site safety advisor for seven days during build
  • On-site SAG attendance and walk around
  • Table top attendance
  • Supporting the production team to ensure the site and infrastructure was safe for the live event

Results

  • Another successful 30,000 capacity show
  • A hugely successful day of festival sport and music with very positive feedback from the client and attendees
  • Ciara Hollis, Event Manager at B7s, provided exceptional feedback, stating that OPS offered a “calming and positive presence” on site
